(opens in a new tab)\">Take me to the\u00a0archived exhibition.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair (1903\u20131950), a British journalist and novelist known for his literary criticism, personal narratives, and works of fiction. Orwell\u2019s novel&nbsp;<em>Nineteen Eighty\u2013Four<\/em>&nbsp;became one of the twentieth century\u2019s most influential works of dystopian science fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First published on June 9, 1949,&nbsp;<em>Nineteen Eighty\u2013Four<\/em>&nbsp;explored themes of war, nationalism, censorship, and state\u2013sponsored surveillance, as seen through the eyes of a citizen in the totalitarian state of Oceania. Since its publication, the novel has been translated into dozens of languages and adapted into several film, radio, and television productions. Terms such as \u201cBig Brother\u201d, \u201cNewspeak\u201d, and \u201cthoughtcrime\u201d have become synonymous with authoritarian ideals and political manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This single case exhibition was on display in the Information Room of Morris Library from June 5-July 2, 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tags:&nbsp;<\/strong>Nineteen eighty-four; Orwell, George, 1903-1950<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This site has been archived.
