Ellis.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charles Zachary Barnett (ca1813 \u2013 1849) was an English librettist and playwright. Barnett\u2019s two-act adaptation of <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em> was first produced at the Surrey Theatre on February 5, 1844, just weeks after the publication of the novella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>[UD_EXHIBITION_ITEM]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Edward Gorey. <em>The Haunted Tea-Cosy: A Dispirited and Distasteful Diversion for Christmas<\/em>. New York: Harcourt Brace &amp; Company, 1997.<\/strong><br>William A. Oliver, Jr. Collection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edward Gorey\u2019s <em>The Haunted Tea-Cosy<\/em> is an illustrated parody of Charles Dickens\u2019 <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em>. The story first appeared in the <em>New York Times Magazine<\/em> on December 21, 1997. <em>The Haunted Tea-Cosy<\/em> opens with the miserly Edmund Gravel trying to cut a slice off the fruitcake he received more than a decade ago. A creature that calls itself the Bahhum Bug leaps out from under the tea-cosy and announces itself as \u201cthe Spectre of Christmas That Never Was\u201d. The Bahhum Bug transports Gravel to various locations where strange characters undergo irrelevant experiences. When they return, a second creature appears, identifies himself as \u201cthe Spectre of Christmas Thar isn\u2019t,\u201d and whisks off on another journey.
