The Hampton Institute, located in Hampton, Virginia, is a historically Black research university. Founded in 1868 as Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute until 1930 when it became known as Hampton Institute. <em>The Southern Workman<\/em> featured reports from returned students, letters from Hampton graduates, Hampton school record, and the president\u2019s message. This is just a small sampling of what the monthly publication featured.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The publication indicates to readers that \u201c<em>The Southern Workman and Hampton School Record<\/em>, reports works for the progress of the Black and Red races of our country.
