Her novel \u201cThe Tygon,\u201d which exists in seven complete drafts with <em>extensive<\/em> revisions throughout each typescript, remains unpublished. Like <em>The Shutter of Snow<\/em>, which was based on Coleman\u2019s postpartum depression after the birth of her son, \u201cThe Tygon\u201d also involves a birth trauma. Coleman is associated with a creative group of friends known as the Hayford Hall Circle, which included the American author Djuna Barnes. Coleman successfully championed Barnes\u2019s novel <em>Nightwood<\/em> before T.S. Eliot, an editor who finally agreed to publish it at Faber and Faber in 1936. With mutual support, Barnes read and closely edited \u201cThe Tigon,\u201d suggesting, among her other contributions, a title change to \u201cThe Tygon.\u201d Coleman\u2019s laborious journey with \u201cTygon\u201d is documented in her writing log as well as in multiple drafts, rewritten over a period of thirty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All items from Emily Holmes Coleman papers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bound notebook containing outlines, notes, character sketches, and writing log for \u201cThe Tygon,\u201d 1933-1936<\/li><li>&#8220;The Tigon: Original MS,&#8221; [1933]. <strong>Typescript<\/strong> with extensive autograph revisions, with red covers, pages 1-299 (308 leaves)<\/li><li>\u201cThe Tigon: MS III, carbon of II with revisions, with Djuna\u2019s corrections,\u201d undated. <strong>Typescript (carbon)<\/strong> with extensive autograph revisions by Djuna Barnes,\u201d includes added pages and rearranged pages (324 leaves)<\/li><li>\u201cThe Tygon: MS V, revised finally to July 22, 1953 &#8211; Balcombe, Sussex,\u201d 1953. <strong>Typescript <\/strong>with extensive autograph corrections, deletions, and revisions, as well as notes,&#8221; pages 1-325 (322 leaves).
