(His second was published more than\ntwo decades later, <em>Moise and the World of\nReason<\/em>, in 1975.) The typescript shown here bears the original title, a\nnote from Williams\u2019s longtime agent Audrey Wood to the typing service for the\nmanuscript, and the signature of New Directions editor Paul Bigelow. In\naddition to a limited edition, \u201cspecially bound and signed by the author,\u201d New\nDirections published <em>The Roman Spring of\nMrs. Stone <\/em>with an abstract book jacket by the prominent designer Alvin\nLustig. British publisher Lehman chose Cecil Beaton to design the cover for its\nedition. The 1952 Signet paperback edition, marketed by the New American\nLibrary whose slogan was \u201cGood Reading for the Millions,\u201d featured cover art by\nJames Avati, who has been called the \u201cchiaroscuro\nmaster of paperback realism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All items from the Norman Unger collection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cThe Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone,\u201d undated. <strong>Typescript (carbon)<\/strong> with altered title and autograph corrections, undated<\/li><li><em>The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone<\/em>.
