About This Exhibition:
Highlights from the Museums Opens in Old College’s Main Gallery
More than an exhibition, the gallery serves as a dynamic space where collections spark faculty and student learning, inspire wonder and open new possibilities for imagining the world across time, media and history. To further fuel this aspiration, from fall 2025 through fall 2026, the Main Gallery of Old College will showcase a unique installation of the UD Library, Museums and Press’ mineral and art collections. This presentation highlights the beauty of natural materials alongside the creativity of sculptural form, inviting visitors to explore the dialogue between art and nature.
The gallery will feature well-loved works by artists such as Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Tina Allen, Harry Bertoia and William Ellisworth Artis, alongside rarely seen treasures from the ancient art collection. Mineral highlights include a luminous blue Brazilian topaz, a slice of richly patterned petrified palm wood and a finely carved charoite owl. It is our hope that this installation inspires you to visit and engage with the gallery—whether as a source of creative inspiration, a catalyst for new research or a resource integrated into academic study.
In addition to this installation, visitors to the Old College Main Gallery can also explore the exhibition Icons of the Fantastic: Illustrations of Imaginative Literature from the Korshak Collection, on view in the Old College West Gallery.
