Video: Student Life in France

Take your time and watch the two silent film clips to catch a glimpse of student life in France for the Delaware Foreign Study Plan students, the originals of which are held at the University Archives.

The first clip features Dorothy Johnston during the late fall/winter of the 1927-1928 trip to France. A family member sent her money to rent a camera and have a film made in Paris as a surprise gift for her parents.

The second longer clip features a variety of scenes from an undated Foreign Study Plan trip early in the 1930s. It is not known who commissioned or shot this film. Various film clips from the trip, clearly not in chronological order, were spliced together to create a longer reel. Students and chaperones can be seen on the deck of their ocean liner as well as touring various cities, towns, and historic locations throughout France.
