7 – Alterations

Samuel R. Delany (b. 1942), author

William C. Bamberger, publisher

The material pertaining to Samuel Delany’s 2004 novella Phallos reflects extensive revision and author’s alterations in the proof stage with his publisher, Bill Bamberger, at Bamberger Books. Delaney returned page proofs with both minor and significant changes related to a complicated classical backstory for the nonexistent novel Phallos that is at the heart of his story. Delany signed his letters and emails "Chip" and addressed them to "Bill." Several of the letters are typed and laser-printed, while the rest are printed emails. Shown on the wall is a publisher's proof of the book's dust jacket.
