Wilmington Youth Emergency Action Council and other Youth Programs

Individuals like Jim Baker, a future mayor of Wilmington (2001-2012), helped found the Wilmington Youth Emergency Action Council (WYEAC), an organization providing services and bringing together teenagers and young adults from across the city to relieve tensions between neighborhood gangs.

Other youth organizations, like the local Boy Scouts of America Council, also sought to create programs to serve the needs of Wilmington's youth.
