Playwright

Through scripts, contracts and business correspondence, publicity, and published interviews, Ms. Rebeck’s papers tell the story of her Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as the popularity of her work in regional theatres around the country.  The archive includes photographs, programs, local news clippings and press releases, reviews, and other ephemera related to the many productions of her plays.

After workshopping To Spite His Face at Brandeis University in 1985, the world premiere of Rebeck’s play was presented by Wayne State University Theatre in Detroit in early 1987.  The play was billed as “a new American farce” combining slapstick in the tradition of old French masters with modern situation comedy.
