Throughout March 2009, Kaufman urged support of FERA from his op-eds in various media outlets. The Senate Judiciary Committee passed FERA on March 5, 2009, sending it to the Senate for a vote. From the Senate floor, Kaufman told fellow Senators that FERA would be the easiest bill they vote on. On April 28, 2009, the Senate passed FERA 92-4.
