National Engineers Week

The goals of National Engineers Week are to increase understanding and interest in engineering careers amongst K-12 students across the country by bringing 50,000 engineering volunteers into classrooms to speak to students and inspire the next generation of engineers. National Engineers Week started with Representative Daniel Lipinski (D-IL). Representative Lipinski introduced the resolution for several years in the House and reached out to Senator Kaufman in 2010 to do the same in the Senate. Kaufman agreed to sponsor the resolution and found Senator Susan M. Collins (R-ME) to be the lead Republican cosponsor on the "Dear Colleague" letter. S. Res. 417 passed by unanimous consent on February 23, 2010.
