Kaufman later chaired a Senate Committee on the Judiciary hearing on "Mortgage Fraud, Securities Fraud, and the Financial Meltdown: Prosecuting those Responsible." During the hearing, Kaufman questioned Robert Khuzami, the Securities and Exchange Commission's director of enforcement, on pursuing high-level fraud investigations.
